Prostate cancer diagnosis survey

We want to hear about your diagnosis

In Australia, GPs are meant to follow accepted guidelines for all their clinical practices.  For men, one of the most important aspects of GP practice is early diagnosis of prostate cancer.  Early detection is key to survival and better treatment outcomes.

Right now, new draft guidelines are ready for public comment – Guidelines for the Early Detection of Prostate Cancer in Australia.  It’s a whopping document because it has to update and replace the old set of guidelines from 2016.

Many things have changed since 2016, so it’s vital that this new document reflects all those changes.  It’s also critical that Australian men speak up and have their say about the contents of the new guidelines.

Alan and I are preparing our submission right now.  That’s why I have drafted a quick 6 question survey for men to tell us about their own prostate cancer diagnosis journey.

If you want an idea of how prostate cancer is diagnosed at the moment, check out our earlier article.

Without any further ado, our survey is set out below.

We need your responses by Friday 16 May 2025 so we can use your stories in our submission.

The survey is now closed.

Thank you so much – we received 264 responses to the survey.

Once all the data has been downloaded, collated and analysed, I will post the results online (similar to the survey that we conducted in 2023).  Your responses will also be used to inform our submission on the Draft Guidelines – the public consultation period closes on Sunday, 25 May 2025.
