About Alan

My background is in the natural therapies and counselling.  I’ve also been practising and teaching Reiki for many years.

Men’s health is my key focus.  That’s what drives me to do what I do, which includes a great deal of volunteering for organisations like:

  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs, as a Men’s Health Peer Educator for nearly 15 years.
  • Air Force Association, Victoria, where I’m currently a Welfare Officer.
  • Bayside-Kingston Prostate Cancer Support Group, currently Group Leader.
  • Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, as a Consumer Advocate for the past 3 years on a Steering Committee developing an online Treatment Decision Aid for men with prostate cancer.

In the past, I served with the Air Force and did a tour of Vietnam (1969-1970).  I still get a huge buzz out of planes.

Alan - 13 Jan 2014If you’ve ever met me, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of Hawaiian shirts and I love the beach; it’s the place where I go to ditch the stress.

Oh, and I also had my own journey of discovery dealing with prostate cancer.  Been there, done that, and definitely wrote the book!

About the Prostate Zone
website and blog

My aim is to keep men informed about whatever is happening out there in the world of prostate health.  I don’t profess to be the fount of all knowledge (far from it), but I’ve spent some time in the healthcare profession.  I’ve also spent years talking to men about their prostates… and listening to them as well.

I’m going to apply the KISS principle, “keep it simple, sweetheart”.

Whenever I come across something of interest, I will write a post and include links, where possible.

Other than prostate matters, this website will look at nutrition and Reiki.  You’ll see there are pages to choose from in the Menu Bar at the top of the page.  Each one will give a brief explanation of the topic concerned.

And then there’s my book – We’ve lost my prostate, mate… and life goes on.  To find out about the book and purchase it, visit My Book page.

You can also check out a YouTube blast from the past.  Back in July 2013, I was invited to share my prostate cancer story on video for Tobin Brothers Funerals.  So, if you’d like to see and hear me talking about the subject, I’ve included the link below.
